THE PROJECT ANGEL STORY

What is PROJECT ANGEL?

At the holiday season each year, people get anxious for the holidays to approach. They might think about shopping for presents, decorating the house and baking special goodies. For people who have no extra money for shopping, decorating and baking, it can be a sad time. When volunteers at the East Shoreline Chapter of the American Red Cross thought about this it made them sad, too. They wanted to help. That is when PROJECT ANGEL came to be. The volunteers knew that if they could provide these people with things they used every day, then maybe there would be a little extra money that could be spent on the holidays instead. The volunteers decided to give them a choice of packages filled with things like the following:

Household Package Personal Care Package Baby Care Package Teen Products
Laundry soap Shampoo Baby wipes Deodorant
Window cleaner Conditioner Baby shampoo Shampoo
Plastic wrap Tampons Baby oil Conditioner
Napkins Shaving cream Baby bath Hair items
Paper towels Disposable razors Baby lotion Brush
Toilet paper Kleenex Diaper rash ointment Comb
Bathroom cleaner Sanitary pads Petroleum jelly Tooth brush
Tin foil Toothpaste Laundry soap Lotion
Powdered cleanser Deodorant Disposable diapers Movie passes
Light bulbs Tooth brush   Fast food certificates
Trash bags Soap   Bowling passes
Dish soap     Music store certificates
All purpose cleaner     Video rental coupons

All throughout Bay County people decided to help. They either donated some of the products listed above to put in one of the packages, or they donated $1.00 for a paper angel. The paper angel would remind other people to help and the $1.00 would help buy some of the products for the packages. Big companies helped also. Some donated whole cases full of products to help out. Other people helped by packing the bags with the products.

The people who received the packages appreciated PROJECT ANGEL. So now each year volunteers (individuals, companies, groups, churches and schools) help families in Bay County by making sure they receive one of the packages to help them have a happier holiday.

If you have any questions regarding PROJECT ANGEL or would like to make a donation or volunteer, feel free to call the American Red Cross at 989-892-1541.
